University of Transport Technology Ranked 35th Among Vietnamese Universities in the Webometrics Ranking 2024

In July 2024, Webometrics released the results of its second university ranking for the year. In this edition, the University of Transport Technology (UTT) was ranked 35th out of 187 Vietnamese universities, marking a remarkable improvement of 48 places compared to the previous ranking. (Source: Vietnam | Ranking Web of Universities: Webometrics ranks 30,000 institutions).

Webometrics is an automated ranking system that evaluates the digital capacity, online presence, and academic influence of higher education institutions. The ranking is based on indicators measuring website visibility and online impact (impact), academic openness (openness) on Google Scholar, and scientific citations (excellence) derived from the Scopus database.

Webometrics evaluation criteria

In this ranking cycle, Webometrics maintained the same evaluation methodology as in previous editions; however, the weighting of the indicators has been adjusted. Specifically, Visibility (Impact): 50% – the highest weight. Excellence: 40% – based on Scimago data, Transparency (Openness): 10% – based on citations from the top 310 authors on Google Scholar.

In 2024, the University of Transport Technology continued to be highly recognized by national and international ranking organizations for its academic quality and institutional reputation.

According to the SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR), UTT was ranked 26th among the best universities in Vietnam out of 45 institutions evaluated in 2024. Notably, UTT ranked Top 2 in Vietnam in the field of Earth and Planetary Sciences, and Top 3 in Environmental Sciences.

SCImago, headquartered in Spain, is a globally respected ranking organization. Its methodology is based on Scopus—the world-renowned database of high-quality scientific publications. In 2024, SCImago assessed institutions worldwide based on three criteria: Research (50%), Innovation (30%), Societal Impact (20%).

According to Vietnam’s University Rankings (VNUR)—the first university ranking system developed and published within Vietnam—UTT was ranked 30th nationwide in 2024 in the category of scientific publication output, out of 240 universities. (Source: VNUR.VN – Vietnam University Rankings). In 2023, one UTT lecturer was listed among the Top 10,000 most influential scientists worldwide.

The 2024 rankings by SCImago and Webometrics reaffirm the University of Transport Technology’s rising standing, recognition, and academic reputation. In the coming years, the University will continue to uphold its core values, enhance its national and international profile, and further strengthen its contributions to education, research, and community service.
