On the morning of April 19, 2026, the University of Transport Technology (UTT) hosted the Opening Ceremony of the National Qualifier of the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) World Championship 2026. The competition is organized by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in coordination with IIG Vietnam Education Organization, attracting nearly 1,500 contestants nationwide.

Attending the program were Mr. Nguyễn Tường Lâm – Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and President of the Vietnam Youth Federation; Ms. Đoàn Nguyễn Vân Khanh – Chief Executive Officer of IIG Vietnam. On behalf of UTT were Dr. Nguyễn Văn Lâm – Vice Rector; Mr. Phùng Công Dũng – Secretary of the Youth Union; along with representatives of University units and a large number of contestants from teams competing in the Northern region.

This year’s competition continues to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) components into the test content. The inclusion of AI not only reflects current technological trends but also aims to develop comprehensive digital competencies among participants, including proficiency in digital tools, problem-solving skills, and the effective application of AI in study and work. This serves as a practical orientation toward developing a young workforce equipped with digital capabilities and adaptability to the demands of the new era.

Notably, from the National Qualifier round, contestants scoring 700 points or higher have the opportunity to obtain an international MOS certificate signed by the global CEO of Microsoft, which is recognized worldwide. This provides an important advantage for students in standardizing their competencies and enhancing their future academic and career prospects.

At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee honored the MOS World Championship 2025 Ambassador and recognized the achievements of Vietnamese contestants at the World Finals, contributing to spreading the spirit of learning and mastering international digital skills among students.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Nguyễn Tường Lâm emphasized that Vietnam is entering a new development phase in which science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation serve as key driving forces for breakthroughs. In this context, building a generation of young people with knowledge, skills, digital thinking, and global adaptability is an urgent and decisive requirement for the country’s future. Accordingly, the Youth Union has identified its action orientation: youth pioneering in digital transformation; each member as a proactive and creative digital citizen; and each Youth Union organization as an environment that fosters innovation.

He affirmed that organizing competitions such as the MOS World Championship is a practical solution to enhance digital competencies, inspire creativity, and prepare high-quality young human resources for the new era. This effectiveness is also reflected in the impressive international achievements of the Vietnam National Team, which has won 24 world medals to date, including 5 World Champion titles. In the 2025 season alone, Vietnam ranked among the top 5 strongest teams globally.

In 2026, the competition continues to be held nationwide with two national rounds: the National Qualifier and the National Final. Contestants compete in six categories: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (versions 2019 and Microsoft 365 Apps), across three regions—Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City. The MOS test in the National Qualifier is conducted entirely on computers within 50 minutes, with a maximum score of 1,000 points.

Following the national rounds, the top six contestants will represent Vietnam at the World Finals in the United States, competing with participants from nearly 100 countries and territories.
