Career Orientation Seminar for Students Majoring in Urban Infrastructure Construction and Management
On 01 October 2026, the Department of Construction Geotechnics & Metro, Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Transport Technology (UTT) organised the seminar “Exploring Careers, Employment Opportunities and Career Orientation in Urban Infrastructure Construction and Management” for more than 180 K77 freshmen. The programme helped students gain a better understanding of their field of study, the professional working environment, and the knowledge and skills they need to develop from their first years at university.
Attending the programme were Dr. Pham Quang Dung - Deputy Head of the Academic Affairs Office; leaders and lecturers from the Department of Construction Geotechnics & Metro, Faculty of Civil Engineering; guest speakers from enterprises and management agencies; and a large number of K77 students.

At the programme, the speakers shared a range of perspectives from professional practice. Mr. Hoang Long - Head of the Hanoi Branch and Head of the Sales Department at Kawakin Core-Tech Vietnam shared insights into the working environment, requirements for young engineers, and the competencies students need to develop to meet recruitment demands. Mr. Pham Van Quan - Head of the Technical Department at FECON Infrastructure Construction Joint Stock Company helped students gain a clearer understanding of the practical work of engineers, as well as the professional knowledge and skills required when participating in infrastructure construction projects.
From an educational perspective, Dr. Nguyen Trung Kien - Department of Construction Geotechnics & Metro emphasised the importance of active learning methods, engineering thinking, the ability to use specialised tools, foreign language proficiency, teamwork skills and self-learning capacity. For first-year students, identifying learning goals early, developing a personal development plan, and understanding the connection between classroom knowledge and practical professional requirements provide an important foundation for their studies in the years ahead.

In addition, Mr. Bui Kim Co - Head of the Urban Infrastructure Management Division of Giang Vo Ward shared practical experience in urban infrastructure management, helping students gain a better understanding of a career path directly related to Urban Infrastructure Construction and Management. Through discussions on urbanisation trends, infrastructure development needs and urban management, students gained further insights into career potential as well as the role of this field in modern urban development.

The programme provided ample time for students to interact directly with guest speakers and lecturers on study-related topics, skills to be developed, recruitment requirements, practical work and employment opportunities after graduation. Questions from students created an open and interactive atmosphere, helping freshmen begin to develop a clearer understanding of their academic and career paths.

Through the seminar, K77 freshmen were encouraged to recognise that career preparation does not begin only after graduation, but should start from their first years at university. Understanding their field of study, proactively developing their skills and gaining practical experience will provide important foundations for students to gradually adapt to the requirements of enterprises and the labour market.
The programme not only provided further information about career opportunities but also enabled more than 180 K77 freshmen to connect academic knowledge with practical experience, helping them become more proactive in their studies, personal development and future career planning.
