Conference on Research Group Performance Review and Launch of the Smart Materials and Technology Applications Research Group
On January 17, the University of Transport Technology held a conference to review the performance of research groups and strong research groups, and to officially announce the establishment of the “Smart Materials and Technology Applications” Research Group. The event aimed to evaluate the outcomes achieved by the research groups over the past year, as well as to set strategic directions, and propose solutions to enhance the effectiveness of research activities in the upcoming academic year.
Attending the conference were Dr. Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng – Vice Rector – along with departmental leaders and members of the university’s research groups.

Overview of the Conference
Speaking at the conference, Dr. Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng emphasized the crucial role of research groups in promoting scientific, technological, and innovative activities. He also acknowledged and highly appreciated the remarkable achievements of the research groups, particularly in publishing international papers and implementing practical application projects.
Alongside these accomplishments, Dr. Hùng pointed out several limitations that need to be addressed, such as the fragmented and uncoordinated operations of some groups, the lack of clear strategic directions, and the predominance of independent member contributions rather than collective outputs representing the collective imprint of the research groups. In addition, he also noted insufficient enterprise and international collaboration, as well as the limited integration of scientific research with the university’s educational activities.

To overcome these shortcomings, in the following period, Dr. Hùng urged research groups to focus on prioritized topics and aspects aligned with national strategies, green economic development, digital transformation, and high-tech applications. He encouraged increased quantity and quality of both national and international publications.
Furthermore, the Office of Science, Technology and International Cooperation (STIC) should proactively provide consultancy on science, innovation, and digital transformation, serving as a bridge between internal and external units. The office should also coordinate with research groups and unit leaders to formulate annual research plans, and concretize performance indicators such as national and international scientific publications, patent registrations, and the development of monographs, textbooks, and academic articles.
At the conference, Dr. Ngô Thị Thanh Hương, Head of the STIC Office, presented a report summarizing research activities in 2024 and outlined the science and technology development strategy towards 2030. Accordingly, the goal is to establish the university as a leading research center focusing on six key areas, including high-speed railways, semiconductor and microchip technology, electric vehicles, logistics, e-commerce and fintech, and artificial intelligence.
