Student Scientific Research Day for the 2023-2024 Academic Year
On the morning of June 29, the University of Transport Technology organized the Student Scientific Research Day for the 2023-2024 academic year. The event aimed to summarize and evaluate the organization of scientific research activities while recognizing students' achievements in research. It also served as an inspiration to ignite students' passion for scientific exploration.
Attending the event were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Hoàng Long – Rector of the University; Dr. Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng – Vice Rector; Dr. Nguyễn Văn Lâm – Vice Rector; Dr. Trần Hà Thanh – Vice Rector; representatives of the university’s leadership; the Student Scientific Research Conference Subcommittee; academic advisors; faculty mentors; and a large number of students engaged in scientific research.

The event attracted a large number of faculty members and students
Speaking at the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Hoàng Long, Rector of the University, stated that in recent times, with the motto of promoting training activities in conjunction with scientific research (SR), innovation, and technology application, the university has achieved significant accomplishments in education and scientific research. The university was ranked 26th out of the 45 best universities in Vietnam in 2024 by the SCImago ranking of research institutions and 48th out of 193 higher education institutions in Vietnam in 2024 according to Vietnam’s University Rankings. Additionally, in 2023, one faculty member was listed among the top 47 most influential Vietnamese scientists worldwide, as selected by a research group from Stanford University (USA) based on Scopus data and published by Elsevier. Notably, to provide the best possible infrastructure conditions for improving training quality and SR activities in the coming period, the construction of an 11-story multifunctional building, an expert residence, and a multi-purpose sports complex will commence in 2024 on the newly expanded university campus.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Hoàng Long acknowledged the timely involvement of faculties, departments, offices, institutes, and supervising lecturers, who play a crucial role in guiding knowledge, inspiring, and leading students to overcome challenges in SR. He also expressed his hope that in the next academic year, these units and faculty members will continue to support and motivate students to engage in more scientific activities relevant to practical professions, increasing both the quantity and quality of the university’s SR and innovation activities.
Furthermore, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Hoàng Long suggested that relevant units should develop policies to support supervising lecturers by linking their contributions to performance evaluations and annual rankings. He emphasized the need to connect SR outcomes with educational results, particularly by integrating them into specialized subject content to inspire students to participate actively. Successfully implementing the university’s educational philosophy will enable students to develop problem-recognition research skills, providing a strong foundation for their continued contributions at higher levels.

After the preliminary selection round, the subcommittees selected 69 student scientific research projects at the university level across various fields, including Construction Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Information Technology, Transport Economics, Logistics, and Environmental Engineering Technology. These projects involved students from different faculties within the university. The research topics are highly practical, contributing to the enhancement of students' professional knowledge and skills while also improving the overall training quality of the university.

Representatives of the university leadership, the organizing committee, and student research groups took a commemorative photo at the event
After the opening ceremony, the conference proceeded with the evaluation and acceptance of research projects in council rooms. During the competition, each group had 20 minutes to present their research project, followed by a Q&A session with the judging panel. The projects were highly appreciated by the judges for their diverse content, high scientific value, modern research methodologies, and practical applicability.
The Student Scientific Research Day truly served as a platform for students to exchange knowledge and experiences with their peers, experts, and scientists. It was not only a scientific playground but also a nurturing ground for young talents. Through the awards, the event created a motivational environment that encouraged students to actively engage in learning and scientific research, generating effective ideas, solutions, and new discoveries that contribute to enhancing the quality of education, training, and national development.
