Student Scientific Research Skills Seminar 2022
On December 30, 2022, the University of Transport Technology (UTT) held the 2022 Student Scientific Research Skills Seminar. Attending the event were Dr. Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng – Vice Rector, representatives of the university's departments, lecturers, and more than 200 students.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng – Vice Rector, emphasized that scientific research and innovation among students have always been encouraged and facilitated by the University. Especially since 2021, UTT has promulgated a separate Regulation on Scientific Research Activities for Students, delegating authority to the specialized faculties to appraise, evaluate, and approve student research projects. The University also provides funding for students to carry out research, participate in startup idea competitions, attend conferences and workshops, and publish in international journals, etc.
Over the past five years, UTT students have conducted more than 200 research projects and participated in the Vietnam Robocon Contest organized by Vietnam Television (VTV), with one team reaching the national finals. Students have also competed in the Honda Energy-Saving Vehicle Contest, the CanSat Competition (a satellite launch simulation contest) and won Third Prize; three student research projects received Consolation Prizes at the National Student Research Contest organized by the Ministry of Education and Training and the VIFOTEC Fund. In addition, five students published four articles in ISI-indexed international journals, and eight students presented five reports at the National Conference on Engineering Mechanics. Notably, two students represented the University at the ASEAN Young Leaders Forum in Singapore, delivering presentations on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).

During the seminar, students gained insights into the significance and benefits of engaging in scientific research, thereby motivating them to participate actively in research activities. The seminar also provided valuable guidance from experienced lecturers, covering potential research topics and directions suitable for UTT students through four thematic presentations: "Why Students Should Conduct Scientific Research", presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vũ Hoài Nam, Lecturer, Faculty of Civil Engineering; "Regulations on Student Scientific Research at UTT", presented by Dr. Hồ Sĩ Lành, Science, Technology and International Cooperation Department; "Scientific Research Methodology", presented by Dr. Trương Thị Mỹ Thanh, Head of Urban Planning and Transport Department; "Research Ethics", presented by Dr. Vũ Đình Thơ, Deputy Head of Civil and Industrial Construction Department.

In the discussion session, students raised a variety of questions related to scientific research, such as: What is the best year to start conducting research for optimal results? What challenges are commonly faced? What typical mistakes do students make during the research process? Is the research budget substantial? All inquiries were thoughtfully addressed and clarified by the lecturers.
