The university leadership received and worked with the delegation of South Korean experts in the railway sector

On February 21 in Hanoi, the leadership of the University of Transport Technology (UTT) welcomed and worked with the delegation from the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) to promote cooperation in training and developing human resources for the North-South high-speed railway project.

The delegation included Mr. Kim Won Eung – Deputy General Director of KORAIL; Mr. Kwon Se Gon – Deputy Director of the Technology Research Department; Mr. Hwang Ingyu – Senior Manager of the International Cooperation Department; Mr. Suh Jae Myung – Chairman of the Energy Committee, along with other delegation members.

Welcoming the delegation, on behalf of the University, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Hoàng Long – Rector; Dr. Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng – Vice Rector; Dr. Ngô Thị Thanh Hương – Head of the Department of Science, Technology, and International Cooperation, along with representatives of various departments. Also attending were Dr. Nguyễn Văn Bính – President of the Vietnam Railway Economics & Transport Association; Ms. Trần Thị Huệ Chi – Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Railway Transport Joint Stock Company; and Mr. Trần Đình Khải Hoàn – Deputy General Director of Vietnam Railway Transport Joint Stock Company.

Mr. Kim Won Eung delivered a speech at the event

Speaking at the event, Mr. Kim Won Eung emphasized the importance of workforce development for the North-South high-speed railway project. He stated, "Since 2021, South Korea has been actively promoting cooperation plans with Vietnam in the railway sector, including high-level delegation exchanges between the two countries. Based on our experience in implementing high-speed rail since 2004, KORAIL is committed to supporting Vietnam in training 14,000 personnel in operations, train driving, and high-speed railway management."

He affirmed that South Korea is ready to transfer technology to Vietnam, distinguishing itself from some countries like France and Japan. He expressed his desire to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Transport Technology to implement specialized training programs, contributing to building a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the operational demands of high-speed rail.

On behalf of the University’s Board of Directors, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Hoàng Long, the Rector, expressed his sincere gratitude to KORAIL for its interest and willingness to foster bilateral cooperation in the future. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Hoàng Long emphasized: “The development of the North-South high-speed railway is not only a significant step forward for Vietnam's transportation infrastructure but also an opportunity for training and developing human resources. The University of Transport Technology, with its expertise in technical training, particularly in transportation, is always ready to collaborate with KORAIL to establish well-structured training programs, contributing to the development of a high-quality workforce for Vietnam’s railway sector.”

During the meeting, both parties discussed key aspects of training high-quality human resources for railway construction, operation, and maintenance in Vietnam. The discussions opened up numerous opportunities for collaboration between the University and international partners, contributing to the preparation of a skilled workforce for the future development of Vietnam’s railway industry.
