Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) Visits and Works with UTT: Strengthening Collaboration in the Field of Urban Rail Transit
Hanoi, 21-22 April 2025 – Within the framework of its international cooperation programme, UTT welcomed a delegation from the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), led by Associate Professor Dr Ng Keong Andrew and Dr Ng Hong Sin. The visit marks a significant advancement in the collaborative relationship between the two institutions, especially in the realm of urban rail transit.
The visit served to concretise the cooperation set out in the previously signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), and aims to deploy academic exchange programmes, joint research projects, and international student mobility. It also evidences the mutual commitment to enhancing the quality of education in alignment with practical demands and emerging technologies.
On the first day of engagement (21 April), the two parties convened an academic exchange session at UTT, focusing on topics such as rail transit technology and semiconductor devices. UTT was represented by Dr Hoang Vu, and SIT by Prof. Dr Ng Keong; their presentations on current research and practical experience attracted strong interest from faculty and students of both institutions.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Command Centre of the Hanoi Metro Company (HMC) to study operational procedures, and directly experienced the Cát Linh–Hà Đông metro line—one of the city’s major transport infrastructure projects—thus gaining insight into urban rail system technology and management.

On the morning of 22 April, the delegation proceeded to the S9 Station construction site of the Hanoi Urban Rail Project (Nhổn – Ga Hà Nội section). There, the engineers and experts from SIT were briefed on the construction progress, applied technologies, and engineering solutions in use. They also observed major works such as the TBM-excavated tunnel, European-standard underground station structures, and ancillary technical facilities.

At the conclusion of the visit, a vibrant student cultural exchange programme between UTT and SIT took place, featuring traditional dress experiences, folk games and culinary interactions. Through these activities, students from both institutions deepened their cultural understanding and strengthened their spirit of friendship.

Both parties agreed to further enhance cooperation in training, research and technology transfer, aiming to develop joint training programmes, student-faculty exchanges, as well as applied research projects serving the development of the urban transport sector.
SIT’s visit not only opens up broad collaboration opportunities for UTT but also contributes to strengthening the educational and technological relationship between Vietnam and Singapore.
