The Flame of Oratory Contest - Connecting Knowledge & Enhancing UTT Students' Oratory Skills
With the aim of creating a healthy academic environment, promoting the spirit of learning, research, and developing debating and presentation skills-these are extremely important competencies for Vietnamese students in the current integration context. On the afternoon of October 23, 2025, the Faculty of Law and Politics at the University of Transport and Communications organized the "Flame of Debate" competition in 2025. This event also served as an occasion to celebrate Vietnam Law Day (November 9) and was part of a series of activities commemorating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the University of Transport and Communications (November 15, 1945 - November 1, 2025).
The "Flame of Debate" competition organized by the Faculty of Law and Politics at the University of Transport and Communications received the attention and participation of university leaders, unit leaders, teachers, and a large number of students. On the side of university leadership, there were Dr. Nguyen Van Lam, Vice Rector; Dr. Ngo Quoc Trinh, Director of Training; and Mr. Phung Cong Dung, Secretary of the Youth Union.
On the side of the leadership of the Law - Politics Department, there are Dr. Phạm Văn Tân, the Head of Department; Dr. Nguyễn Thị Thơm, the Deputy Head of Department. And the enthusiastic participation of all lecturers from the Law - Politics Department along with students from various faculties within the university.
In his opening speech, Dr. Nguyễn Văn Lâm – Vice Rector of the university emphasized the significance of the competition in fostering an open learning environment, encouraging students to be confident, proactive, and creative in their learning, research, and personal development.
Dr. Nguyễn Văn Lâm expressed his hope that the competition will continue to be an intellectual playground where students can hone their logical thinking, critical thinking, and persuasive communication skills, and he also thanked the Board of Rectors, collaborating units, and all lecturers and students who have accompanied the program.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Phạm Văn Tân, Head of the Law and Politics Department, affirmed: "The competition is organized to ignite and spread the 'flame' of passion for learning, research, and practicing public speaking skills – one of the essential abilities that help students confidently assert themselves in their studies, careers, and life. This is not only a place for them to demonstrate their courage, critical thinking, reasoning, and logical presentation of issues but also an opportunity for them to share, learn, and promote humanitarian values, the spirit of daring to think – daring to speak – daring to act of UTT youth."
This year's competition attracted many outstanding students from various units: the Law and Politics Department, the Transport Economics Department, the Construction Department, and others. Each contestant displayed a confident demeanor, a sense of responsibility, sharp reasoning skills, and strong rhetorical confidence in addressing current political and social issues of concern.
After the preliminary round, the top 10 contestants were selected to advance to the final round, which consists of two parts: Debating and Supreme Oratory.
In the "Debating" section, contestants are paired and engage in direct debates with opposing viewpoints on current affairs, legal, and social topics. The competition is lively and dramatic, showcasing the students' independent thinking and strong reasoning skills.

Entering the "Ultimate Oratory" section, the outstanding contestants who passed the knockout round continued to demonstrate excellent eloquence, creativity, and depth of knowledge, bringing many emotions and impressions to the audience.
The final results after two rounds of competition show that the winner is Tran Huyen Nga from the Management Faculty; the second prize goes to Pham Duc Hai Trieu from the Construction Faculty; the third prize is awarded to Nguyen Thu Hien from the Transport Economics Faculty; Le Thi Khanh Linh from the Law-Politics Faculty is the contestant who received the Most Favorite Contestant award.
The "Hung Debate Flame" competition in 2025 is not only a valuable academic playground but also contributes to discovering and nurturing students with talent in debating, critical thinking, and leadership skills. It also serves as a testament to the dynamic spirit, intelligence, and resilience of students from the University of Transport and Communications – future citizens ready to integrate, innovate, and serve society with knowledge and responsibility.
