UTT Law Students Develop Professional Skills through a Mock Trial Session

On the morning of 09 June 2026, the Faculty of Law and Political Science, University of Transport Technology (UTT), organized a mock trial program featuring a first-instance criminal trial for the offense of "Gambling" under Article 321 of the 2015 Penal Code. The program was conducted in Mock Courtroom 603, Building A8, under the supervision of Dr. Mai Hong Quang.

Attending the program were Dr. Pham Van Tan – Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science; Dr. Nguyen Thi Thom – Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science; Dr. Pham Quang Dung – Deputy Head of the Academic Affairs Office; Mr. Phung Quang Dung – Secretary of the Youth Union; together with lecturers from the Department of Law, faculty members of the Faculty of Law and Political Science, and a large number of students enrolled in the Faculty's academic programs.

Within the framework of the program, students directly participated in and assumed various roles in a court proceeding, including Judge, People's Juror, Prosecutor, Lawyer, Court Clerk, Defendant, and other litigation participants. Based on the case file and current legal regulations, students analyzed the case, developed legal arguments, prepared litigation content, and conducted the entire trial procedure in accordance with legal provisions.

The mock trial activity is one of the practical training methods actively implemented by the Faculty of Law and Political Science to strengthen students' ability to apply legal knowledge to professional practice. Through assuming the roles of different participants in legal proceedings, students have the opportunity to gain direct exposure to the professional environment, develop a deeper understanding of judicial procedures, and enhance their legal reasoning and ability to apply legal provisions to specific cases.

In addition to reinforcing professional knowledge, the program also helps students develop essential competencies for legal professionals, including case analysis skills, legal reasoning, advocacy and rebuttal skills, communication and teamwork abilities, as well as professional conduct. Direct participation in mock trials also enables students to build confidence, improve public speaking skills, and strengthen their ability to handle situations in a highly practical environment.

Through practice-oriented learning activities such as mock trials, the Faculty of Law and Political Science continues to provide an environment in which students can gain hands-on experience and apply the knowledge they have acquired while still at university. This is also one of the measures contributing to improving educational quality, helping students gradually develop professional competencies and meet the demands of the labor market in the legal field.
