University of Transport Technology Hosts Delegation from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

On March 6, a working meeting between University of Transport Technology (UTT) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Viet Nam took place at the University to discuss opportunities for cooperation in education, scientific research, and the internationalization of higher education.

Attending the meeting, on behalf of DAAD, were Mr. Felix Wagenfeld – Director of the Regional Office in Viet Nam and Mr. Đỗ Minh Việt – Academic Advisor/Study in Germany Consultant in Hanoi. Representing University of Transport Technology were Dr. Trần Thanh An – Vice Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngô Thị Thanh Hương – Head of the Department of Science, Technology and International Cooperation, Dr. Nguyễn Long Khánh – Director of the Institute for Training and International Cooperation, along with representatives of relevant units.

Overview of the working session

During the meeting, Dr. Trần Thanh An – Vice Rector of the University, expressed his pleasure in welcoming the DAAD delegation to UTT for discussions and exchanges. He provided an overview of the University’s development, its key training disciplines, and its orientation toward expanding international cooperation in the coming period. Currently, UTT has established and implemented numerous cooperation programs with partners from various countries around the world. Germany is considered one of the University’s important partners, with cooperation programs involving Steinbeis University and S-Next Practice, which have created many opportunities for academic exchange, research collaboration, and internships for UTT lecturers and students.

At the session, Mr. Felix Wagenfeld – Director of the DAAD Regional Office in Viet Nam presented an overview of DAAD’s activities as well as scholarship programs, research funding, and academic cooperation initiatives between Vietnamese and German universities. According to Mr. Felix Wagenfeld, DAAD places strong emphasis on supporting students, lecturers, and researchers through various scholarship schemes and collaborative projects, thereby promoting academic exchange and strengthening research capacity at higher education institutions.

In an open and constructive atmosphere, representatives of both sides discussed potential areas for cooperation in the coming period. University of Transport Technology expressed its interest in strengthening connections with German universities and research institutes through DAAD, promoting student and lecturer exchange programs, organizing scientific conferences, and implementing joint research projects. These activities are expected to contribute to improving the University’s training and research capacity while advancing the internationalization of higher education at UTT.

Following the meeting with the University leadership, representatives of DAAD held an additional session with UTT lecturers and students to introduce opportunities for study and research in Germany. During this program, Mr. Đỗ Minh Việt – Academic Advisor/Study in Germany Consultant in Hanoi provided detailed information about Germany’s higher education system, along with scholarship programs and opportunities for study, research, and academic exchange available to Vietnamese students and lecturers.

The exchange session attracted strong interest from many students, with numerous questions regarding scholarship eligibility, language requirements, application procedures, tuition fees, living costs, part-time work opportunities, and employment prospects in Germany after graduation. Representatives from DAAD provided detailed responses and shared valuable experiences, helping students gain a clearer understanding of study and research opportunities in Germany in the future.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), founded in 1925 and headquartered in Bonn, Germany, is an organization dedicated to promoting international academic exchange and cooperation. Through scholarship programs, research funding, and cooperative projects, DAAD supports students, researchers, and higher education institutions in Germany and around the world.

Currently, DAAD maintains a network of 56 offices worldwide. In 2024 alone, it funded approximately 140,925 students, trainees, and researchers, while supporting around 2,938 academic cooperation projects. From 1950 to 2023, DAAD funded approximately 1.86 million people from Germany to study or conduct research abroad and 1.24 million individuals from other countries to study or conduct research in Germany, thereby reaffirming its significant role in connecting and promoting global academic exchange.
