UTT Railway Training Program Trainees Gain In-Depth Practical Experience at Cát Linh – Hà Đông Metro Line and Hanoi Railway Station

On April 19, 2026, trainees of the Railway Operations Training Program at the University of Transport Technology (UTT) participated in a practical field trip at the Hanoi Urban Railway system (Hanoi Metro) and the National Railway system (Hanoi Railway Station). The activity was conducted within the training module titled “Passenger Service Procedures at Stations and Professional Communication Skills,” aiming to strengthen the linkage between theory and practice.

At the Cát Linh – Hà Đông Metro Line (Line 2A), trainees directly engaged with the operation model of a modern metro station. Key activities focused on the operation of the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system, assisting passengers in using Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs), and exploring advanced technologies such as electronic identification and biometric authentication.

In addition, trainees practiced operational tasks in the concourse and platform areas, participating in passenger flow management during boarding and alighting to ensure safety during peak hours. By role-playing as passengers traveling between stations, trainees had the opportunity to observe and develop communication and situation-handling skills in a real operational environment. Notably, at Cát Linh Station, the group visited the Station Control Room (SCR)—the central hub monitoring all operational activities—and received guidance on service techniques such as the “3-second rule” and the “smile technique” in customer service.

Continuing the program, at Hanoi Railway Station, trainees were divided into groups to conduct in-depth study of the organizational and operational model of the national railway system. The group visited the Train Operation Control Center and learned about coordination processes among departments to ensure transport safety and security. Trainees also gained hands-on experience at key service points, including ticket counters, waiting areas, passenger pick-up and drop-off zones, and freight service areas, thereby enhancing customer service skills based on a user-centered approach.

At the conclusion of the program, experts and partner organizations highly appreciated the trainees’ serious learning attitude, professional demeanor, and quick adaptability. According to Dr. Đinh Quang Toàn – Head of the Training Program Development Project, such practical experiences not only deepen students’ understanding of public transport operations but also contribute to developing high-quality human resources capable of meeting real-world demands in the transport sector.

The program clearly demonstrates UTT’s practice-oriented training approach, implemented through close collaboration between the University and partners such as Hanoi Metro and Vietnam Railways Corporation. It helps bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world practice, contributing to the development of a modern and civilized transport system for the capital.
